Our thirteen Lady Tigers just finished a thrilling fall volleyball season! They started the season with a bang on September 21st with a 2-0 win against Long Island Lutheran High School, winning by 12 points in the first set and 6 points in the second set. They continued confidently to their two games against Stony Brook losing by a tiny margin. At home in their match against Stonybrook, the girls scored 25 points to 9 in the first set, 14 points to 25 in the second, and 22 points to 25 in the final set. When they traveled to Stonybrook, they scored 9 points to 25 in the first set and 18 points to 25 in the second set. The following week, the Lady Tigers redeemed their previous losses by defeating both Knox School and Kew Forest twice. At the end of the regular season, the Tigers won a tremendous victory against Knox School — a win that put them in the number two seed. They wrapped up the regular season with five wins and two losses.
That win allowed them to host the semi-final game against Knox. The Lady Tigers gave it their all, but unfortunately lost in a close second set: 25-22. Only a few days earlier, star defender Addison Cooper broke her shoulder, yet she returned with resilience, standing on the sidelines proudly cheering on her team. Captain Adora Madubuko had an incredible season with plenty of ace serves, setter dumps, and blocks. Adora, along with Ciara Leatherbury and Ellen Zwerling, were selected for the Private Schools Athletic Association All Conference Team. The PSAAC is the association for all private school athletics. The All Conference Team is a team composed of the best players chosen from each team.
When questioned about the volleyball season overall, starter Asha Gajraj remarked, “I have never felt more at home in a sport than being on the volleyball team. We worked together and had a successful season, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!” Similarly, eighth-grader Olivia Herrarte responded with words of her own experience: “I may be new but I learned so many new things. I loved playing with this volleyball team, they were like family to me.”
We congratulate the Lady Tigers on an incredible season and wish them luck in the seasons to come!
