The Prism: Every Side of the Story

What's Poppin'

During the past few months, COVID-19 has impacted pop culture in many ways, such as no fans at sporting events, TV shows/movies being delayed for filming, and virtual awards shows and more. These are some things that have happened during the Corona virus pandemic:

Sports:

—NBA Finals: In March 2020, the NBA shut down due to a positive coronavirus case by a player named Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz. For 4 months, the National Basketball Association had postponed their games. On July 30, the NBA resumed their season in a “bubble” at Disney World in Orlando, Florida with no in-person fans. Several teams fought to get into the finals. The two teams that made it to the finals were the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers. In the end, the Lakers won their 17th championship. Congrats Lakers!!

—Football has returned and is doing well. There have been some positive cases, and games have been suspended, but there have been no major outbreaks in the NFL.

—The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the World Series! The Dodgers won 4 games against the Tampa Rays. (4-2) Congratulations Dodgers!!

However, a player named Justin Turner tested positive for covid-19 in the middle of the final game. Even though he tested positive, he still was able to celebrate the huge win with his teammates (while wearing a mask).

TV:

—On September 20, Zendaya won her first Emmy Award. She won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Rue Bennet in HBO’s Euphoria. She is the youngest winner to win in this category.

—The HBO hit series Euphoria will come back with 2 new episodes starting with the first episode on December 6th. Don’t worry, they shot both episodes under the coronavirus safety guidelines.

—After 14 years and 20 seasons, the famous reality show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” will come to an end in early 2021. “The family wanted time to focus more on their family and future projects and the show is a major job that takes up a lot of time.” sources said.

—The Disney+ hit series, “The Mandalorian,” returned with a brand new season and first episode on October 30th.

TikTok:

—The app Tik Tok has been hugely successful throughout quarantine. Tik Tok made quarantine a little less boring. Many people danced to their favorite songs, participated in several trends, and connected with their peers online. Although there were a lot of times where the app was supposed to be banned, Tik Tok is here to stay!

—Tik Tok Star Charli D’Amelio has almost 100 million followers. She would be the first Tik Tok star to reach that milestone.

Technology:

—The brand new iPhone 12 was released on October 23. The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Max won’t be available until November 13.

—For all the gamers, the Playstation 5 (PS5) will be coming out November 12. The PS5 will certainly be a step up from current-gen consoles such as a built-in 4K Blu-ray player.
