The Prism: Every Side of the Story

Letter From The Editor

Hello all! As we embark on our first experience in Journalism, I, as Editor, would like to disclose our expectations for the year and provide you with the necessary information to understand our efforts as we create our newspaper. We plan to supply our peers with an informative yet enjoyable source of news where we are able to educate you regarding important topics, worldly or limited to our school!

My name is Chloe Albucker, and I am a ninth grader here at Lawrence Woodmere Academy. I have assumed the responsibility as Editor-In-Chief of the school newspaper, the Prism Press. I would like to introduce to you our new, much esteemed staff: Lauren Mitchell, Kendell Neely, Ciara Leatherbury, Cayla Carrion, Juyan Ke, and myself — all overseen by Mrs. Maffei. I am glad to say that Lauren has taken on the role of Deputy Editor, as she will assist me through the exuberant process of creating this newspaper. We are extremely delighted to be able to participate in this committee, and hope to enthrall you with our articles of politics, pop culture, interactive interviews, photography, school media, and more! Our close-knit community is bound together by our strong morals and durable friendships, and we are greatly appreciative of our safe bubble here at LWA. However, it is conducive to the broadening of our minds to expand and acquire more knowledge of the world. This is precisely what the members of the Prism Press committee are attempting to achieve for you, as well as ourselves.

I would also like to state that I will be composing a recurring article, entitled “CEASE THE IGNORANCE,” where I will be acting as a liaison between our community and the rest of the world. I will inform you on recent politics, worldly events, social developments, etc. Though we may feel comfortable in our little bubble — shielded from the horrors of the world, it is important to understand these horrors, to acknowledge them, and to proceed further in this marathon of life. This is the only way to ensure peace and to make certain that history is not to repeat itself. We live in a very damaged world, continually abused and maltreated by the previous generations. It is only our generation that withholds the capacity and determination to repair it, and this includes educating ourselves and learning from our past mistakes. We hope to inspire you through our articles to utilize the powerful instrument that is your voice, because we possess a certain power that lurks within the depths of our throats, perpetually awaiting a chance in the spotlight. The words are within our grasp, so why bite your tongue? I promise that we will do everything in our power to create a great source of information that you will find intriguing, as well as enlightening. Our voices are strong, but only if we sing wisely.

We will strive to achieve these goals and to fulfill the expectations that we have set for ourselves. Follow our committee’s journey through the Prism Press as we explore the endeavors of our high school years. We will venture out into the unknown, all the while observing the precepts of journalism and inspiring our inner journalists to take flight! Happy reading!
