The Lawrence Woodmere Academy boys varsity, girls varsity, and boys junior varsity basketball teams seasons’ are now underway. The boys varsity are now 11-1 only losing to Friends Seminary recently, 67-56. Before this they began their season 11-0 beating teams such Ranney (NJ) and St. Dominic (NY). Junior Jasigha Barnes says, “Basketball is going great. It feels good reuniting with my teammates and winning again.” The boys varsity team hopes to continue their season ending just as greatly as they started. They continue their season with an away game against Dalton on January 16, 2020.
The Lawrence Woodmere Academy Boys Junior Varsity basketball team started it off right by defeating Stony Brook Prep in their most recent game to achieve a record of 4-2. Tyeem Penn contributed 16 points while Sebastian Ford added a lethal 7 points and 3 blocks in one half. After speaking with Tochi, he explained how their most recent game created positive energy and they optimistically want to keep winning games that’ll take them to the first seed in the playoffs. On Wednesday February 5th, the JV basketball team beat Knox by 20. Led By Tyheem Penn with an incredible 25 points and 10 assists.
On Monday, January 13th the girls Varsity team beat Avenues 39-15. Diana Dosso lead the team with 25 points and Autumn Washington has great contributions with 10 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 blocks. They return to the floor on Friday, January 17th.
The Lawrence Woodmere Academy Boys Varsity basketball team also anticipates to perform well in the postseason. Having two games left playing Fieldston Monday and their Senior night Wednesday they plan to get two more victories. After speaking with Clinton Efinda he told me how all he wants is to win a state championship. He traveled here from Ireland and is determined to capture a state championship this year and hopefully in the future as well.
