The Prism: Every Side of the Story

LWA Tigers See Early Success

The LWA Tigers are rolling and are currently undefeated as the boys have been racking up some early wins.

Larry Rhabb, (CO 2020) stated “Starting off 9-0 is a great feeling. I love my brothers and I’m excited for what the future holds.” Daniel (CO 2021) added similar thoughts by expressing “It’s a great feeling to get to be around my brothers everyday on and off the court to achieve the goal of winning the chip.” With the team’s great energy and outstanding play they have been able to crack rankings of top 10, in New York State (MaxPreps). There can only be great things to come for the future of the LWA team.

This is no surprise as LWA is known for their excellence in basketball. Throughout the history of the Tigers basketball program they have  accumulated 8 state Champions while holding the title of back to back to back champions as they claimed the 2017, 2018 and 2019 titles. These immaculate stats have been lead by Head Coach Jeff Weiss. Coach Weiss holds the title of NYS Coach of the year 6 different times, is the coach with the most wins in Nassau County History and has been inducted into Basketball Coaches of NY Hall of Fame.

However, all of these accolades are not just handed to them. The Tigers are constantly grinding in the gym to make their game better. There is no shortage of effort between the players as the goal is to always win. John Malinka (CO 2020) depicted this by venturing “This season our coaches have really emphasized how important the “little things” are. Whether it’s closing out, help defense, or executing the play, our detail-oriented practices have ultimately ensured maximum efficiency and success in our games.”
